GRIF* SOFTWARE SUITE
GRIF* software suite is the result of over 40 years of research and development. In 2010, TotalEnergies entrusted SATODEV with the marketing and development of GRIF* to bring it up to the ergonomic standards of the 2010s and to meet the new needs arising from increasingly complex studies.
GRIF* and its computation engines are the benchmark for dependability software. In contrast to the simplistic choices and approximate formulas used by competing software, GRIF is based on the state of the scientific art and is constantly innovating.
The software’s designers realized a long time ago that there is no magic tool to solve every problem. That’s why GRIF* is made up of 12 different modules. Whatever the industrial sector and the type of study to be carried out, one of the modules will enable you to quickly obtain the results you’re looking for.
The modules are grouped into “packages” according to the mathematical approach used. The choice will therefore depend on the methods you wish to use and the information you wish to obtain from your model.
GRIF* is also a development environment on which all modules are based. You’ll find the same ergonomics and functionalities that facilitate the day-to-day work of our engineers:

PACKAGES
GRIF* BOOLEAN PACKAGE
Boolean package contains the “classic” modeling tools of dependability: fault tree, event tree, reliability diagram block, bow-tie, reliability network, SIL loop.
Perfectly designed for all safety studies on critical systems, it performs computations without approximation, thanks to Binary Decision Diagrams. Probabilities, frequencies, importance factors or minimum cuts are results you’ll find in all its modules.
GRIF* SIMULATION PACKAGE
Simulation package is an ultra-versatile package that uses Monte Carlo simulation to provide all possible results for your model. It allows you to model from both functional and dysfunctional point of view, and to take into account the logistic support of systems.
With all its modules featuring an interactive step-by-step simulator, this package is also ideal for presenting and validating your systems.
GRIF* MARKOVIAN PACKAGE
This package can handle systems with temporal dependencies (one event must occur before another) or a limited number of repairers.
It contains the Markov module, which analytically calculates probabilities and residence times in states. It can also be used to study systems whose behavior changes over time, thanks to its “Markov Multi-Phase” functionality.
AN IT SOLUTION FOR EVERY BUSINESS SECTOR
Dependability is a discipline present in all industrial sectors. And GRIF* meets the needs of all these sectors.
Although GRIF has its origins in the energy sector, its functionalities can be used in all sectors of activity. The use of generic terms (probability, frequency, cut, sequence, availability, failure rate, etc.) rather than sector-specific terms means that all operational safety engineers can understand the data expected and the results provided.
Of course, some computations very specific to certain standards have been added, but being optional they won’t disturb users who don’t need them.
GRIF* - Strong points
– Data or results summary tables,
– Copy/paste within the application,
– Copy/paste to and from Excel,
– Automated computations via batch,
– Centralized data management,
– Command-line launch to facilitate digital continuity,
– Export in free/open formats (Open-PSA, XML, …),
– Connection to databases,
– Computation manager.
TEST GRIF*
Our experts will work with you, free of charge and with no obligation, to explain the features of the GRIF* software suite and meet your specific needs. A one-hour demonstration is available, either in person or via webinar.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Yes, GRIF* is standalone software that uses files, like Word or Excel, so as long as you have access to your files you can work.
Yes, if you have perpetual licenses, you can use them for life. If 10 years after a study, you are asked to make a patch, you can reuse your old license. However, you’ll need to have the same environment as 10 years ago, because without a maintenance service you won’t have access to the latest versions running on the latest versions of Windows or Linux.
GRIF* is based on your operating system’s access rights. If you have read and write access to an A directory, you will be able to work on the files in that directory without limit. If you have read-only access to a B directory, then the files in that directory will be opened as “read-only”. For the same reason, if a colleague is working on a file, when you open it you’ll be informed that another person is using the file, and you’ll have read-only access to it.
Of course, GRIF* has guaranteed backward compatibility for almost 20 years. Your GRIF* 2024 version can open all files from 2006 onwards. On the other hand, since GRIF* evolves enormously from year to year with new features, an older version will not be able to open files from the latest GRIF* version.
There are several versions of GRIF*, and the “portable” version doesn’t even need to be installed. But there’s also a *.msi version which allows you to install GRIF either in “Program Files” or in your user directory.
